Fan-Fiction Terminator vs Back to the Future

The time is drawing near. I’m still fixing some plot holes and organizing the story, but the “Terminator vs. Back to the Future” fan-fiction project is getting closer to being written. I’m going to aim for starting the first chapter this summer, so it’s still a ways out. The video that was done up by How It Should Have Ended Team is pretty much what the story is about. John Connor wants to kill Doc Emmit Brown so that the machines can never uncover and use his time traveling technology. I’ll go into more detail on the basic storyline at the end of this post.

Since this is free fan fiction, I’m not going to spend any money on editing, but as I complete scenes, I’ll be posting them up here on the Blog. I’ll be revising it a few times before I load it all into a pdf and offer it as a free download somehow. I figure it’ll be wonderful practice and learn to hone my writing skills some more.

The basic storyline is pretty simple, but that’s as simple as the story gets. There are a lot of subplots and other things that twist the story around. I wanted to base the story around the first Back to the Future film, which a lot of was used in the video. That keeps the story somewhat easy. The idea of John sending back a T1000 is reaching a little, but what the heck, it is fiction. I’ve figured that part out, starting the book off with how John and Kyle Reese captured the T1000 after I write the opening by Sarah Connor. From there it gets messy, obviously the T100 (Arnold model) wasn’t sent by the machines to save Doc Brown, and if it was, that only confuses the plot more than if someone else had sent it. I haven’t decided that part yet. I already planned out the ending, but I’m still working out the kinks to get there. As far as the T100, I think I have a good idea on where it came from and why it tries to save Doc Brown.

Another challenge for this project is that I’m trying to make it so that if you read the book and then watch the video, you remember reading all those scenes, and they will make sense. Luckily I don’t have to develop the characters so much, Hollywood has done that, but I will have to add depth so people unfamiliar (*gasp) with these movies will be able to relate and enjoy reading about them.

I will have to alter the story of Back to the Future a great deal to get the T100 to quote Biff and have Biff and the T1000 swapped at the prom and so on, but I think I have a lot of that figured out already. This is going to be really fun to write, and I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I am going to enjoy writing it.

The main reason I’m waiting till summer to start writing is that I have to complete revisions for Devil Dog and then another go through another editing phase, while at the same time complete my work for Welcome To My Imagination. The goal is to release both of these books before the summer and then I’ll be working on The Warlord (a fantasy novel I’ve mentioned briefly in the past) and Devil Dog 2 soon after that. It’s going to be a really busy year, but I love a challenge and I love writing.

PS- One thing that has really stumped me is coming up with a title for the Fan-fic book. I don’t want to call it Terminator: How It Should Have Ended, or Terminator: Back to the Future. Anyone have any other ideas? I haven’t come up with anything that just doesn’t sound ridiculous, but then again, this story will be ridiculous. I'm all ears for ideas.

Now it's time to get some work done, so I'm going to make like a tree and get out of here!
